Sir Five Star formidable in Golden Circle

Sir Five Star, winner of the Mountain Valley Stakes at Oaklawn Park, is the horse to beat in the $50,000 Golden Circle Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

A son of Five Star Day trained by Steve Asmussen, Sir Five Star won the $50,000 Mountain Valley by 8 1/2 lengths two races back. In his last start, he was beaten a neck in the $50,000 Daylight Sprint Stakes at Sunland Park. Five Star Day has won 5 of 13 lifetime starts with a bankroll of $215,620.

The horse to catch should be the lightning-quick Jack Grant, who has been working nicely in Texas for his 2007 debut. Third in the $75,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes at Fair Grounds in December, Jack Grant won the Bountiful Harvest Stakes last November at Sam Houston. He should be flying from his rail post from the start for trainer Bret Calhoun.

Biglie Smallworld is coming into the Golden Circle after winning an allowance at Oaklawn Park to begin his 3-year-old season. Biglie Smallworld is looking for his third straight win after wrapping up his 2006 campaign with a victory in the Prairie Meadows Freshmen Stakes last September. Dick Clark trains Biglie Smallworld, a son of Meadowlake who should be stalking the early fractions.
