Sing Baby Sing wins fourth straight

Sing Baby Sing won his fourth straight race on Saturday, when he came back in the stretch for a half-length victory over Waupaca in the $50,000 Bob Johnson Memorial at Lone Star Park. Waupaca held second, finishing a head in front of third-place finisher Almost Certain.

Sing Baby Sing ($11.20) set the pace in the one-mile turf race, leading the field through an opening quarter in 24.37 seconds, a half-mile in 47.46 and six furlongs in 1:11.11. He lost his advantage to Waupaca in the stretch, then came back and covered the distance over firm turf in 1:34.45.

"They kind of got the jump on us at the top of the stretch, but he has a lot of heart and he was able to overcome it," said Justin Shepherd, who rode Sing Baby Sing for trainer Jack Bruner.

Sing Baby Sing has won 5 of 9 starts for his owner, Tom Durant.
