'Silver' may get gold this time

AUBURN, Wash. - Knight in Silver and Right You Are, the second and third finishers in a 5 1/2-furlong race on May 3, will be rematched in Friday's six-furlong feature at Emerald Downs, a $25,000 claiming race that has drawn a field of seven 3-year-olds.

Knight in Silver finished just a head to the good of Right You Are in the May 3 contest, which was also for $25,000 claimers, but he experienced significant trouble when forced to steady near the three-eighths marker. Knight in Silver, a Knight in Savannah gelding from the barn of Dave Bennett, should be coming up to a peak effort in his third start of the meeting on Sunday and may only need a clean trip to score his second career win.

He has the riding services of Gary Baze, who is riding in career form with 28 percent winners and three stakes wins after the first 14 days of the meet.

A strong case can also be made for Right You Are, who won four races as a 2-year-old last year. Right You Are, who is trained by Jimmy Orr, was making his 2003 debut on May 3 and finished fastest of all. With a race under his girth and an additional sixteenth of a mile to work with, Right You Are should be difficult to resist under Ben Russell, who was up for his last start.

Both Knight in Silver and Right You Are will likely be trying to catch Wapato Gold, an extremely quick son of Stolen Gold. Wapato Gold is coming off a win over $16,000 company on April 26, when he led throughout, running the five-furlong race in 57.20 seconds.
