Silver Deputy pensioned

Email

Silver Deputy, a leading sire in the late 1990s whose

champions included Silverbul-letday, has been pensioned because of declining fertility, Windfields bloodstock manager Ric Waldman said Friday.

A Deputy Minister horse, Silver Deputy is 23 and stood at Brookdale Farm in Lexington, Ky., for $30,000 this year. He currently is ranked 30th on the North American general sire list, with multiple graded stakes winner J Be K his leading active earner this year.

In 2008, he got 15 of his 57 mares in foal, Waldman said. Silver Deputy's fertility rate for the preceding year was 60 percent.

In addition to Silverbulletday, who earned titles as champion juvenile filly in 1998 and 3-year-old filly in 1999, Silver Deputy also sired Canadian champions Deputy Inxs, Archers Bay, Deputy Jane West, Scotzanna, Poetically, and Larkwhistle. From 19 crops of racing age, Silver Deputy has sired the earners of more than $72 million.
