Signs point to Pocatello at Finger

When Bruce Levine ships in to Finger Lakes, watch out. The Belmont Park-based trainer has run 24 starters at Finger Lakes since 2003 and won with 13.

On Saturday, Levine sends Pocatello to the Farmington, N.Y., track for the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes for 3-year-old New York-bred fillies. Aside from Levine's sure handling, Pocatello has Beyer Speed Figures of 84 and 83 in her last two starts, and no others in the nine-horse field ever have run an 80 Beyer.

Throw in that Finger Lakes leading rider John Davilla Jr. gets off the lifetime 2-for-3 Barnfox to ride Pocatello and it's obvious she will be a tough favorite to beat.

Be Bullish, 2-1 on the morning line, ships up from Aqueduct for trainer Scott Schwartz and has the second-best Beyers in the race. But Schwartz is only 1 for 26 at Finger Lakes since 2003, so beware.

Barossa (6-1), Windjammer

(5-1), and Barnfox (8-1) also have solid chances of earning a check.

Pocatello runs on or near the pace, and there's plenty of speed in the race, led by Barnfox, who figures to try hard for the lead out of post 1.

Twice before, Pocatello wilted in a hot pace duel, and that looks like the one thing her backers might fear.
