Sidcup upsets Prairie Bayou

Sidcup swept past most of the field on the far turn before proceeding to a 12-1 upset in the $50,000 Prairie Bayou Stakes at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky.

By giving apprentice Alonso Quinonez the first stakes victory of his nascent riding career, Sidcup now has paid big mutuels in winning both of his career starts over Polytrack. He returned $26.80 to win Saturday, while an allowance victory in October at Keeneland was worth $33.

Summer Book led early in the 11/8-mile Prairie Bayou, but entering the far turn, the field began to bunch together, with Sidcup and Special Event simultaneously using big circling moves that carried them past the others. Special Event wound up second, a half-length behind the winner and another half-length before Gin and Sin, the 5-2 second choice who had traffic trouble before shaking free too late. Summer Book, the 5-2 favorite, faded to ninth in the field of 10.
