Shipper wins again at Arlington

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - For the third time in two months, Spanish Glitter shipped in from Kentucky to take the money in an overnight sprint stakes at Arlington Park. Under a perfect trip from leading rider Rene Douglas, Spanish Glitter kicked past pacesetter Emily Ring to win the $54,500 Silver Maiden Stakes by three lengths.

Spanish Glitter is based at Churchill Downs with trainer Bernie Flint, who has continually found spots for the 3-year-old filly in Chicago this summer.

Spanish Glitter won the Meafara Stakes here in August and the Miss Oceana in September prior to her easy score on Monday. She paid $5 as the favorite in a nine-horse field and ran seven furlongs in 1:23.08 over a fast main track.

Emily Ring, making her first stakes start, set a fast pace and held a clear lead on the far turn. But Spanish Glitter quickly collared her at the quarter-pole and ran by herself through the stretch. Emily Ring did finish well to hold second, two lengths in front of the Illinois-bred Shemya.
