Shining Energy and jockey Rene Douglas claim victory in the $100,000 La Habra Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita Park.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Shining Energy will stretch out to two turns in coming starts after a sharp win in Sunday's $111,400 for turf sprinters at Santa Anita.

In the La Habra over about 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside course, Shining Energy rallied from seventh to win by 2 3-4 lengths over 31-1 Kohar. Ridden by Rene Douglas, Shining Energy was timed in 1:13.61.

Kohar finished a neck in front of Berbatim and Royal Wave, who were in a dead-heat for third in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies.

Shining Energy is unbeaten in two starts since arriving from France over the winter. Trained by Julio Canani for Terry Lanni and Bernie Schiappa, Shining Energy has won 2 of 6 starts and $115,610. Stakes-placed in France last year, Shining Energy beat maidens in her U.S. debut on Feb. 5.

"I think she can go a mile and a quarter," Canani said.

Shining Energy may return in the $100,000 Providencia Stakes over 1 1-8 miles on April 9.
