Shine Young fields set

The lineups have been set for the $100,000 divisions of the D.S. "Shine" Young Futurity, which will anchor Louisiana Legends Night here on June 30. Four trials were held for fillies and four for colts and geldings last Friday and Saturday, with the top three finishers from each trial moving on to the finals.

In the filly trials on Friday, Countess Noel recorded the fastest time. A Count the Time filly trained by Dale Angelle, Countess Noel outfinished the Steve Asmussen-trained Hisse in a time of 59.40 seconds for the five furlongs.

Asmussen did win the first trial of the evening with the first-time starter and 6-5 favorite Iknowuthinkimsexy (59.61), who is also by Count the Time. The other two trial winners were Lively Reaper (1:00.46) and Swifty Victress (59.78)

In the colts and geldings trials on Saturday, the Asmussen-trained Must Acquit ran to his 3-10 price in the first trial and stamped himself as the one to beat in the finals with a 2 1/4-length win. A Successful Appeal colt, he validated a recent maiden race win at Churchill Downs while covering five furlongs in 58.39, the fastest time of the night.

Another Asmussen charge, Jumpin for Jason, accounted for the third trial in a time of 59.11. He had finished fifth in his debut at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby Week. Ide Like a Double (59.45) won the second trial by 11 expanding lengths in his first start for trainer Byron Gilbert, while Cubera (1:00.11) won the final trial of the evening.
