Trainer Art Sherman will be honored by Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

Art Sherman, who based his operation in Northern California for many years, will be honored by Golden Gate Fields and feted by his many friends and fans here Saturday.

Sherman trained California Chrome to victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year. The colt might have locked up Eclipse Awards as Horse of the Year and the nation’s top 3-year-old male with his victory last Saturday in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on turf.

Fans will receive California Chrome posters, and Sherman will be available near the winner’s circle to sign the posters after being interviewed by local television and radio host Sam Spear following the fourth race.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Sherman. “I’m looking forward to seeing old friends like [trainers] Tony Diaz and Bill Delia.”

◗ The annual grooms’ Christmas party, sponsored by the Race Track Chaplaincy of America and California Thoroughbred Trainers, will be held Thursday, Dec. 11. Fans can donate gifts at specially marked locations around the track or send a check with a tax-deductible donation to the Race Track Chaplaincy of America in care of Golden Gate Fields.
