Sherman to be honored by Golden Gate Fields

Trainer Art Sherman will be honored by Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

Art Sherman, who based his operation in Northern California for many years, will be honored by Golden Gate Fields and feted by his many friends and fans here Saturday.

Sherman trained California Chrome to victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year. The colt might have locked up Eclipse Awards as Horse of the Year and the nation’s top 3-year-old male with his victory last Saturday in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on turf.

Fans will receive California Chrome posters, and Sherman will be available near the winner’s circle to sign the posters after being interviewed by local television and radio host Sam Spear following the fourth race.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Sherman. “I’m looking forward to seeing old friends like [trainers] Tony Diaz and Bill Delia.”

◗ The annual grooms’ Christmas party, sponsored by the Race Track Chaplaincy of America and California Thoroughbred Trainers, will be held Thursday, Dec. 11. Fans can donate gifts at specially marked locations around the track or send a check with a tax-deductible donation to the Race Track Chaplaincy of America in care of Golden Gate Fields.

I don't bet in golden gates because hollandorfer is part owner and his horses have to finish in the top 3. Plus the payout is ridiculously low. I could make more money cashing bottles than betting at golden gates.

is "CC" the best 3yo. I don't think so. He was beaten twice by Bayern.

I don't believe those races sum it all up. Did Bayern come off a layoff? did Bayern run all 3 races of the triple crown? didn't Bayern lose by more than 20 lengths to CC in Tue Preakness and come dead last? didn't one of those wins come with great controversy , where the main speed challenger and the favorite in the race were bothered at the start? No question Bayern is good and so is CC. hope they race against each other next year. I'm sure CC will run far fewer races this next season...Santa Anita big cap?
