Sharky's Review scores a repeat

Email

ALTOONA, Iowa - Sharky's Review took advantage of a hot early pace and rallied to score by a widening 3 3/4 lengths in Friday's Hawkeyes Handicap for Iowa-bred fillies and mares at Prairie Meadows. This is the second straight year that Sharky's Review has won the Hawkeyes.

Sumthintotalkabout sprinted clear early in the 1 1/16-mile race and went a half-mile in a quick 45.95 seconds. During the early going jockey Luis Quinonez had Sharky's Review racing in fifth position in the seven-horse field, nearly 10 lengths off the leader.

Sharky's Review ($9.80) moved into contention approaching the stretch and blew past Sumthintotalkabout nearing the sixteenth pole to win going away in 1:44.35 over a fast track.

Scarlet Glory nailed Sumthintotalkabout in the final stride to gain second. The 2-1 favorite, One Fine Shweetie chased the pacesetter to the second turn before tiring badly to finish last.

Sharky's Review was co-highweighted at 121-pounds with both Nut N Better, who finished sixth, and Sumthintotalkabout. The win was Sharky's Review's seventh in 13 career starts. Mark Bader trains the 4-year-old daughter of Sharkey for owner Paul Tonderum. Sharky's Review has now won more than $296,000.
