Sharky's Review has speed figures to rate slight edge

Saturday's $40,000 Regal Rumor Stakes at Hawthorne, a six-furlong sprint for older fillies and mares, is so wide open a top three placing by any of the 11 entered would be no surprise.

Sharky's Review, who has earned over $200,000 this year, mostly from wins in Iowa-bred stakes, may prove a lukewarm favorite based on her consistency and strong Beyer Speed Figures.

A prominent player in both restricted and open stakes at Prairie Meadows this season, Sharky's Review was a fast-closing third in the nine-furlong Sweetest Chant Stakes at Arlington on Oct. 14. With two wins and a second in her last three starts at six furlongs, the turnback in distance shouldn't pose a problem.

Soul Onarazorsedge, who puts her perfect Hawthorne record on the line Saturday, should be flying early and stands a good chance of leading these wire to wire if not pressured early.

Feminine Fury, runner-up in four stakes on dirt and turf this year, lost as the odds-on favorite in an optional claimer on opening day, but has worked swiftly since then.

Win Won and Come September, second and third, respectively, in the Powerless Stakes earlier this month, have always done well at Hawthorne. O Lo also does well locally, and is a winner of four of her last five stretching back to last December.
