Shared Belief to return Monday at Golden Gate

Email

Shared Belief, the Eclipse Award winner as 2013’s top 2-year-old, will make his 2014 debut Monday at Golden Gate Fields in a six-furlong allowance race against older horses.

Shared Belief won his debut at Golden Gate Fields last year and capped his season with a victory in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity. Foot problems kept him off the Triple Crown trail.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said that he opted to run Shared Belief at Golden Gate Fields because that is where he has been training.

Shared Belief has had seven works since April 15. He had a five-furlong 1:00.80 bullet drill from the gate on May 8 and another five-furlong bullet work in 1:00.40 on May 15. He worked six furlongs in 1:14.80 on May 21.

Shared Belief will face four older runners, including multiple-stakes-placed stablemate Moonshine Bay, the stakes winner Ourwestcoastghost, multiple-stakes-placed Valiant Flame, and Zehner’s Zenna, who has earned over $200,000. He will break from post 4 with jockey Russell Baze aboard.

“It will be a good challenge for him,” said Hollendorfer. “All the ones in there can run.”

Talamo better be back on this horse whens hr runs a real race against graded stakes company...throws the 5 horse field ridin' minor league rider a bone today and he's happy with that...

If he wins easy today, maybe Jerry puts him in the Los Al Derby? Could end up a soft spot for 500k. And, he's a gelding, so purses are important.

Good spot for a comeback. Too bad the Triple Crown slipped past this wonderful animal, but lots of great opportunities await, maybe even the Travers if Jerry decides to ship east. Then of course the Breeder's Cup could be the long range plan to garner another championship. Good luck!

What a horrible spot. If the purse was 100k or more ok.

Where would you suggest he run? Looks like Hollendorfer is pointing further down the year w this guy. Nothing bad about that.

It's also possible he points him for the $500,000 Los Al Derby. It could be an easy spot to scoop up a big purse. Remember, he is a gelding

A little off subject here but : I really thought the open letter from the editor to "Dear Valued Customer" was going to be an apology for horrendously failed concept of DRF+.And a statement that we the "Valued Customer" would now be able to read the 95% of the articles that are currently going unread. My bad>

There are more red DRF+ boxes than ever. This site now really sucks. Were it not for entries and results, I would have deleted it from my favs long ago. Soon!

Great horse. Will have no trouble here.

Will have no problem, isn't that a bit of a chalky statement running against 4 other 4 yr olds after 5 months off get real no problem is unrealistic, sure he may win but are going bet your nuts on him at 4/5 or less?
