Shared Belief to have first workout since injuring hoof

ARCADIA, Calif. - Shared Belief, the champion 2-year-old male of 2013, is scheduled to have his first workout since January at Golden Gate Fields on Tuesday, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said on Friday.

Shared Belief has not raced since winning the $750,000 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park in December. He was in training at Santa Anita in January when sidelined with a quarter crack.

In early February, Hollendorfer moved Shared Belief from Santa Anita to Golden Gate Fields to train the gelding over the Tapeta Footings synthetic surface. Santa Anita has a dirt surface.

Hollendorfer said that he does not have a race plan in mind for Shared Belief, who has won all three of his starts. A comeback race in June or July is a possibility.

“I think that would be in his time frame,” Hollendorfer said. “I’ve taken my time so far.”

I'm going to assume they will point for the Los Alamitos Derby in July. It's a $500,000 race, if he is ready it seems sure he would go there.

They are pointing him to the Breeders Cup if no more foot issues.

shared belief works 5 f in 58.3 and is back on for the derby...i know i know not enough time.but that would really throw a wrench into the whole futures pools and prognostics.

He doesn't have any points for the Derby, unfortunately.

really like the long layoff. good to stay off lasix while he matures. wouldnt it be better to stay off of the dirt surface? sidneys candy was effective as a turf miler. start him in an overnight stakes race on the turf.

if he ever had a foot issue or any other, hollendorfer sucks out of california and his 30 plus years shows his horses out of that state, is it drugs or is it just incometence, he has had all the good horses in California but they raely perform out iof that state let's say 20-1 perform... very strange statistic for a hall of famer. Something wrong here, something very out of whack... what is it????????????????????????????????

JeanK Obviously you do not have an clue what you are talking about. Hollendorfer is one of the most under-rated HOF trainers in history. Outside of CA he sucks?!?!? What stat book are you looking at? He has won all over North America with all types of Horses, especially in graded stakes. Look at his stats a little closer before you pop off next time.

Last year he won the Gr1 Met Mile and Gr1 Test. He's won the Kentucky Oaks 3 times,The Haskel,The CC of America Oaks,Humana Distaff(all Gr 1's).He's won many, many more outside of Cal.You need to find someone else to pick on.

i seem to remember him raiding in NY successfully...i think he ships just fine.SHARA SKY won a gr1 there last year and got 2nd this year.there are many other examples...you are just wrong about the shipping part as for the drugs who knows....

Dorf is very successful shipping out of state.Do you forget Blind Luck ,Hysterical Lady,3 Kentucky Oaks wins. When he ships he's serious. But like a lot of trainers he prefers his own back yard.

Yep, it seems everyone remembers dorfs big winners outside of CA. He also was the leading trainer at AP back in 2002. I may be wrong on the year, but it was somewhere around then. Don't forget the BC Dirt Mile in 2010, someone remind me the name of the horse, Rosario rode him.

San Diego Handicap and Pacific Classic He likes synthetic, many 3 year olds have won the Pacic Classic.Best Pal and Dullahan to name two.Hollendorfer prefers to stay close to home and only ships when he has to.

Don't see any reason why he would "have to". It's obvious from his comments that prestige is not one of his main interests (if at all) in the sport. He'll race to get back his and the co-owners investment. Then maybe try to make some money. I believe that is the only reason he has been so 'patient' with Shared Belief. Big money invested and no future in the breeding shed.

Wise Dan and Game on Dude examples of the money to make if you're patient and spot your gelding in the right spots regardless of what the public wants you to do.
