Shared Account, Breeders' Cup winner, retired

Shared Account, the winner of the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, has been retired and will be bred in 2012, trainer Graham Motion said on Wednesday.

Shared Account finished seventh in the BC Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4, the final start of a career of 6 wins in 18 starts. She earned $1,649,427.

Shared Account will be sent to owner Kevin Plank’s Sagamore Farm near Baltimore on Friday, Motion said. “I was disappointed to lose her,” Motion said. “It’s nice to send a mare out that’d done what she’s done. She could race another year, but she’s too valuable of a mare.”

A 5-year-old mare by Pleasantly Perfect, Shared Account won three stakes. At 3, she won the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga and was second in two Grade 1 stakes: the Garden City at Belmont Park and the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.

Aside from the BC Filly and Mare Turf, Shared Account won the Grade 3 All Along Stakes at Colonial Downs in 2010, and was second in that year’s Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga.

Motion said he was unsure of breeding plans.
