Shapiro again California chair

Richard Shapiro, the current chairman of the California Horse Racing Board, was recently reappointed to the board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor’s office announced on Thursday.

Shapiro, 55, of Hidden Hills, Calif., has been the board’s chairman since 2006. He was a commissioner for the first two years of his first term. Shapiro is the owner and president of Winco Real Estate Services.

During his time as chairman, Shapiro has been a vocal proponent of synthetic tracks, which have been installed at the state’s four major tracks: Del Mar, Golden Gate Fields, Hollywood Park, and Santa Anita.
