Shanghai Bobby retired with more than $1.85 million in earnings.

Champion Shanghai Bobby will shuttle to stand the 2014 and 2015 Southern Hemisphere breeding seasons at Fazenda Mondesir near Bage, Brazil.

The 4-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday will be leased by a group of prominent Brazilian breeders including Stud Eternamente Rio, Haras Regina, Stud Capitao, Haras Old Friends, and Di Cellius, among others.

The deal was brokered by Lexington-based bloodstock agent Priscila Beloch of Immensity Bloodstock.

Shanghai Bobby, the champion 2-year-old male of 2012, stands the Northern Hemisphere season at Ashford Farm for an advertised fee of $20,000. His first foals will arrive in 2015.

Shanghai Bobby went undefeated in five starts during his 2-year-old season, including victories in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Champagne Stakes, as well as the Grade 2 Hopeful Stakes and the listed Track Barron Stakes. He returned during his 3-year-old campaign to finish second in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes and win the listed Aljamin Stakes. Shanghai Bobby retired with six wins in eight career starts for earnings of $1,857,000.

Bred in Kentucky by Stonehaven Steadings, Shanghai Bobby is the first foal out of the stakes-winning Orientate mare Steelin’. He is from the family of Grade 1 winner City Band, Grade 2 winner Freedom Child, and Grade 3 winner American Lion.
