Shameful gets stakes win

ARCADIA, Calif. - Shameful ended a six-race losing streak in stakes with a come-from-behind victory in Wednesday's $78,650 Pine Tree Lane Stakes at Santa Anita.

Shameful ($20.40) ran the six furlongs in 1:10.31, finishing a length in front of Wild Tickle. Brisquette, the even-money favorite, finished third, but had a troubled trip through the stretch. She was stuck behind fading pacesetter Secret Liaison and inside of Shameful in the final furlong and made no impression once clear.

Shameful had a perfect trip under jockey David Flores. Third on the backstretch, Shameful was well behind the pace of Maria's Mirage and Secret Liaison, who set a quick pace of 21.23 and 44.02 seconds.

On the turn, Shameful began closing ground and drew within two lengths of the leaders with a furlong to go. She had an uninterrupted trip in the stretch while racing well off the rail.

Wild Tickle, who had placed in four consecutive stakes since November, finished a half-length in front of Brisquette, followed by Secret Liaison and Maria's Mirage.

Shameful races for Hal Earnhardt and trainer Bob Baffert. A 4-year-old, Shameful has won 4 of 12 starts and $241,345. She has been second in three stakes - the Santa Paula and La Troienne stakes last year and the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint earlier this year.
