Shaky Town prevails in Evangeline Mile

OPELOUSAS, La. - Stalking the pace under the kind handling of Jamie Theriot, Shaky Town ($5.60) wore down local hero Drill Hall down the stretch to win the $100,000 Evangeline Mile on Saturday night. Three quarters of a length separated the top two finishers and it was another two and a half-lengths further back to Kentucky invader Chippewa Trail in third. Absent Friend and highweight High Strike Zone completed the order of finish in the meeting?s premier event in the handicap division. The running time was 138.60 over fast going.

The victory by Shaky Town gave trainer Cole Norman a three peat in the Mile after sending out Pie N Burger to win the previous two runnings. The winner, owned by Gary and Mary West, won for the seventh time in 17 starts. The victory was his third straight and second consecutive stakes tally after winning the Bobby Johnson Memorial Stakes at Lone Star Park last month. The 5-year-old altered son of Peaks and Valleys has now earned over $253,000.
