'Shaky Start'looks ready this time

CALGARY, Alberta - A Shaky Start will be out to atone for her loss three weeks ago as the favorite in the M.R. Jenkins Memorial at six furlongs when she stretches out to a mile in Monday's $50,000 Ken Pearson Memorial.

A Shaky Start, a 5-year-old mare, was voted champion of her division on this circuit last year.

Although she never fired in her last start, A Shaky Start returned to work five furlongs in a bullet 1:00.20 on May 14 for trainer Al Strumecki. An Alberta-bred daughter of Brass Minister, A Shaky Start drew the rail in Monday's five-horse field and will have regular rider Leanne Painter up. A Shaky Start is co-highweighted at 122 pounds along with Hastings Park invader Summer Symphony.

Leading rider Quincy Welch will be aboard Summer Sym-phony, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Summer Squall. She was one of the top 3-year-olds in British Columbia last year, winning the B.C. Oaks and earning $180,729. Summer Symphony, who is trained by Dave Forster, was a closing third in her 2005 debut on April 30 and turned in two strong works prior to shipping here. A stretch-runner, Summer Sym-phony will break from post 4.

Stole One, who also ships in from the West Coast, drew the outside with Chris Loseth up. Stole One lived up to her name in the Jenkins with a front-running upset.
