Alan Garcia rides Shake Down Baby to a 2 1/4-length win in the La Prevoyante Stakes.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Saratoga shipper Shake Down Baby made a triumphant return to Woodbine on Sunday by taking the $127,000 La Prevoyante Stakes convincingly under Alan Garcia.

Sparkles’ Girl inherited an uncontested lead in the one-mile grass route, as Pure Purity and Shake Down Baby took up the chase. Shake Down Baby went three wide on the turn, and then hit the front early in the stretch before drawing away for a 2 1/4-length win in a time of 1:35.70 over the firm ground.

Niigon’s Eclipse rallied steadily to edge out Pure Purity for second, while Sparkles’ Girl faded to fourth in the 13-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies.

“She broke a step slow, but she was so comfortable in the race,” Garcia said. “I lost a little ground. I had plenty of horse. She did an amazing job. I’m so proud of her. She was so happy to be back home. She was the best filly today.”

Shake Down Baby, a daughter of Wando trained by Christophe Clement, returned $5.80 as the favorite.

Shake Down Baby earned $75,000 for Cheyenne Stable, which purchased her privately over the winter at Gulfstream. Her biggest win took place here last September in the $201,200 Muskoka, a stakes for graduates of local yearling sales.
