LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sgt. Bert was unlucky in last month's Kentucky Cup Turf Dash at Kentucky Downs, getting steadied in midstretch when finishing a close fourth. Sunday in the $112,800 at Keeneland, his fortunes turned around.

Capitalizing a troubled trip from favored Battle Won, Sgt. Bert ($18.60) scored a neck victory over Atticus Kristy. Longshots Midwatch and Rockhurst finished third and fourth, respectively, resulting in a $2 Superfecta payoff of $31,413.80.

The Gary Montgomery-trained Sgt. Bert covered 5 1/2 furlongs on a firm turf course under Rafael Bejarano in 1:04.06, the slowest running in the nine-year history of the race.

Battle Won, the 3-5 favorite that was using the race was a prep for the Breeders' Cup Sprint, raced evenly to finish fifth, a length and a half behind the winner, after being in traffic for much of the race.
