Shared Belief will try to run his unbeaten streak to seven in the Awesome Again.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Shared Belief will have seven rivals when he attempts to stretch his unbeaten streak to seven races in Saturday’s $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita.

The Awesome Again Stakes is one of five Grade 1 races worth $300,000 on Saturday’s outstanding 11-race program. All five races are preps for Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 and are part of the Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In program, offering fees-paid berths for the winners to Breeders’ Cup races.

Shared Belief, the champion 2-year-old male of 2013, drew post 4 in the Awesome Again Stakes, a prep race for the BC Classic on Nov. 1. Shared Belief will be a heavy favorite. His main competition will likely come from Majestic Harbor, who won the Gold Cup at Santa Anita in June, and Imperative, who was third to Shared Belief in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 24.

The Awesome Again Stakes is the eighth race, and the fourth of six consecutive stakes races. The pick six races, the sixth through 11th races, include five stakes.

The stakes action begins in the fifth race with the $300,000 Zenyatta Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles, a prep race for the BC Distaff on Oct. 31. Beholder, the two-time champion, will be a strong favorite against five rivals, including Iotapa, the winner of the Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar in August.

There are 10 2-year-olds in the $300,000 FrontRunner Stakes over 1 1/16 miles, a prep race for the BC Juvenile on Nov. 1. The race is led by American Pharoah, the winner of the Del Mar Futurity over seven furlongs on Sept. 3. Calculator and Skyway, who were second and fourth in the Del Mar Futurity, are part of the field.

The largest field of the day comprises 14 fillies and mares in the $300,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes over 1 1/4 miles on turf, which promises to be a dynamite betting race. The Rodeo Drive is a prep race for the BC Filly and Mare Turf on Nov. 1.

Among those who merit respect are Moulin de Mougin, winner of the Grade 2 John Mabee Stakes at Del Mar in August, and Miss Serendipity, Parranda and Cozze Up Lady, the first three finishers of the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Del Mar on Sept. 1.

The race has two shippers in Irish Mission, who won the Grade 3 Glens Falls Handicap at Saratoga, and Emollient, who was second to Miss Serendipity in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes here in May, but well beaten at Saratoga and Arlington Park during the summer.

After the Awesome Again Stakes, there is the $75,000 Unzip Me Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the hillside turf course, which drew a field of nine.

The final stakes of the day is the $300,000 Chandelier Stakes for 2-year-old fillies over 1 1/16 miles, a prep race for the BC Juvenile Fillies. The entries include Conquest Eclipse and Dad’s Princess, who were third and fourth in the Del Mar Debutante on Aug. 30, and Angela Renee, third as the favorite in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes on a sloppy track at Saratoga on Aug. 31.

Thank God these horses aren't allowed to fight… Really? "5 weeks til Tonalist, Wicked Strong and others come kick his teeth down his throat in Classic." Hilarious, the material in comments is priceless!!!

Please tell me any good reason why SB shouldn't run in the AA at SA. The goal is the BC Classic and this race sets up nicely for it. Don't worry East Coast fans, if all goes wel & SB stays healthy, I'm sure Hollendorfer will ship around next year. We all have seen King Jerry is not afraid to ship his horses to big races.

Shared Belief is a very good horse who has not faced very good horses this year. The one quality horse he beat was Game on Dude, who has been off his game and was retired after that race. The Awesome Again came up weak, similar to the Del Mar Pacific Classic on the synthetic. At least S.B. can get a workout at Santa Anita, at a longer distance. He has a very slim campaign this year. It is hard to see how he can overtake California Chrome, who ran the table on most of the main races this year. You aren't voted Horse of the Year for the last half of the year, after, for example, the best three-year old horses that competed in all the tough earlier races, especially the Triple Crown. The older male division is not the strongest this year; neither is the male turf division. The cards on the table seem to favor California Chrome, who has had the strongest campaign so far.

(IF) Shared Belief runs the table,He'll cinch Horse Of The Year.2 Gr1 wins 1 1/4 against older plus beating Chrome head to head will seal it.Doing it undefeated won't hurt.

I don't get how when you speak about Shared Belief's races, they were weak because of the competition. But when you speak about Chrome, he faced the "best 3yo horses". Who in fact turned out to be nothing more than glorified allowance horses who can barely break a 100BSF. Why don't you talk about how weak the SA, Derby, and Preakness fields were.

Game on Dude ran very admirably in the Pacific Classic to run 4th considering the grueling speed duel he engaged in.

He'd better win big against this dull field to keep up with this lofty reputation. Other than seeing what he can do, the race is a bore. The race of the day is the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Pretty much a preview of the Classic with the exception of a certain 2 three year olds.

Geeze, rough crowd. Nobody needs to win big this weekend. Best case scenario is he wins by little and saves his best for the Classic. Win or lose I hope all pull up sound. By the way, the JC Gold Cup will be a great race, I agree. However, the winner of the Classic comes out of the Awesome Again Stakes.

Well then you must be thinking Shared Belief is going to win the Classic because surely no other horse in that field is capable of doing so.

wow what a buns field...majestic harbor as main threat? really?? woulda loved to see shared belief try to run down Bayern this past weekend (and for triple the money.....) but I guess im dreaming

This race SB is running in is easier than a 2x allowance at Saratoga on a wednesday. I hope he wins by 10, then when he is even money in classic there will be $$ to be made.
John Smith More than 1 year ago
Let me guess, you are from the east coast. You have the attitude that those horses running at toga are the best hands down. You think life revolves around Saratoga. You couldn't be more wrong. But please keep thinking that way. We will keep taking your money. You are a dime a dozen my friend!

WEST COAST HORSE RACING SO OVER RATED THEY HAVE ONLY 1 QUALITY JOCKEY MIKE SMITH AND A BUNCH HORSES THAT CAN ONLY RUN ON POLY

Mike Gentile More than 1 year ago
Let me guess John Smith you are a California Chrome believer just let you know California Chrome won't hit the board in the Breeders Cup I said that before the Belmont I said that before the Pennsylvania and I'll say it again California Chrome is the most overrated horse in history

Mike Gentile More than 1 year ago
Yes Mr. Berger or should I say Mr. Saratoga one of the best true dirt handicappers in the world and yes I will be ready for the turf at the Breeders Cup and will be laughing all the way to the bank just remember I told you first California Chrome wouldn't hit the board in the Belmont and at Park and he will not hit the board in the Classic
