Sessa, owner and breeder, dead

Longtime Florida owner and breeder Ralph Sessa died Tuesday in Davie, Fla. He was 75.

Sessa, along with his late wife, Betty, were pioneers at Calder and operated the successful Circle S Farm, which they established in Davie in 1975.

Among the many homebreds the Sessas campaigned at Calder, Gulfstream, and Hialeah Park over the years were stakes winners Stage Door Betty, Heckofaralph, and their most recent star, Blazing Rate.

A funeral mass was scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at St. David's Catholic Church at 3900 S. University Drive in Davie.
