Serena's Tune, a daughter of champion Serena's Song and the dam of several high-priced yearlings, has died after developing acute laminitis, an official at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Lexington, Ky., confirmed Tuesday.

A Mr. Prospector mare, Serena's Tune was 8. The farm did not disclose the date she died, though trade publications reported she was euthanized the week of Sept. 11.

Serena's Tune's current yearling, a Vindication colt, sold on Sept. 11 at the current Keeneland sale for $2.8 million.

Bred by Bob and Beverly Lewis, Serena's Tune also produced the Storm Cat colt Mutawahej, who sold for $3.1 million at the Keeneland September yearling sale in 2005. Her first foal, the Storm Cat filly Serena's Cat, brought $1.4 million as a weanling at the Keeneland November sale in 2003.

Serena's Tune's last foal is a Vindication colt foaled May 30.
