Serena's Song, Pico Teneriffe foal

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Graded stakes-winning racemares Serena's Song and Pico Teneriffe each produced foals this week.

Serena's Song, already the dam of stakes winner Serena's Tune and Group 1-placed Sophisticat, produced a colt from the final crop of Unbridled. A Claiborne stallion, Unbridled died in October at age 14.

The bay Unbridled colt, born on Feb. 19 at Denali Stud near Lexington, is the fifth for 10-year-old Serena's Song, who is owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis.

Serena's Song, a daughter of Rahy and the Northfields mare Imagining, still holds the Thoroughbred female earnings record of $3,283,388. Winner of the 11 Grade 1 races in her career, Serena's Song was voted champion 3-year-old filly of 1995.

Pico Teneriffe produced a Danzig colt at Windfields Farm in Canada on Feb. 18. A bay, the colt is the first foal for Pico Teneriffe, a 6-year-old Red Ransom mare. Pico Teneriffe won the 2000 Suwannee River Handicap and the 1999 Sweetest Chant and Herecomesthebride Stakes, all Grade 3's.

Pico Teneriffe, owned by Eugene Melnyk, will return to Danzig at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., for a 2002 mating.
