Sensational Score goes from last to first

POMONA, Calif. - A fast pace in Saturday's $100,000 Pomona Derby at Fairplex Park allowed Sensational Score to rally from last to first in the about 1 3/8-mile race for 3-year-olds.

The win was the fourth for trainer Mike Machowsky from six starters at the Los Angeles County Fair meet. Sensational Score ($28.20) won by 3 1/2 lengths under Martin Pedroza and completed the race in a quick 1:51.47 for his second win from seven starts. Quebec Citizen finished second after yet another troubled trip under jockey Omar Berrio. Pacesetting favorite Northern Soldier finished third. Second favorite Refinery finished a dull fifth.

Sensational Score is a candidate for the winter Strub Series at Santa Anita.
