Senor Rojo runs down Spaghetti Mouse in Winston Churchill

Senor Rojo, under Richard Hamel, wins the Sir Winston Churchill.

Senor Rojo and Spaghetti Mouse turned the 1 1/8-mile, $25,771  Sir Winston Churchill at Hastings into a match race on Sunday with Senor Rojo overtaking Spaghetti Mouse on the stretch turn and then drawing off to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

Breaking sharply with Richard Hamel aboard, Senor Rojo stalked Spaghetti Mouse through modest fractions of 24.05 and 48.74 seconds. He was still a length behind after six furlongs in 1:13.69 before moving up to take over the lead on the stretch turn.

Trick of the North finished a non-threatening third. The favored Almost Time never got involved and finished last in the six-horse field.

Trained by Dave Forster, Senor Rojo paid $9.30 and posted a final time of 1:49.23.

* Bearrock N Roll, trained by Craig MacPherson, came from off the pace with Dave Wilson aboard to score a $34.30 upset over favored Burj Dubai in the six-furlong, $25,000  Derby Bar and Grill Express.

Bearrock N Roll rallied between horses in midstretch and held off Burj Dubai by 1 1/2 lengths, completing the distance in 1:11.07. The longshot B R Remark got up late to round out a $1,527.90 trifecta.

* Russell Baze guided Too Much Dirt to a 2 1/2-length win over Stormy Canuck in the $50,000 Ascot Graduation for 2-year-olds. Baze eased Too Much Dirt well off the pace during the early part of the 1 1/16-mile race, moved him into contention at the top of the stretch, and then drew clear late. The winning time was 1:46.30.

Too Much Dirt paid $8.30 and gave trainer Craig MacPherson his second stakes win on the day.
