Sendipity comes off maiden win

AUBURN, Wash. - Sendipity will shoot for a second consecutive win when she takes on eight rivals in Friday's Emerald Downs feature, a first-level allowance for 3-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Sendipity, a daughter of Delineator trained by Manuel Calvario, served notice when she raced in the U. S. Bank Stakes here as a maiden on April 23. She broke far behind her rivals that day, but finished with a rush to split a field of 11 and was beaten only 6 1/4 lengths by the winner, stablemate Devons Smoken. Off that solid effort at 46-1, Sendipity was bet down to 2-1 when facing maiden special weight company on May 21 and proved a prompt favorite, winning by four widening lengths in 1:10 for six furlongs. She should benefit from the additional sixteenth on Friday, when she will again be ridden by Alfredo Miranda at 119 pounds.

Sendipity will probably have to catch Forty Colors, who showed the way as a 59-1 maiden in the U. S. Bank. Forty Colors, trained by Dayson Lavanway, returned a week later to run second to maiden special weight company, then ran fourth of six in the Federal Way Handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs on May 21. Though she is the only maiden in Friday's field, Forty Colors is actually stepping down in class. She is also the apparent speed of the race, and should be able to avoid trouble breaking from the outside post under Ben Russell.

Also threats are Wave Her On, who graduated at the maiden special weight level on April 30, and Coffeeinparis.
