Selva heads The Girls

Wednesday's featured stakes at Indiana Downs will be going five furlongs on the turf. Selva has a class edge in the field of 10 fillies and mares in the $75,000 stakes, which is named the Girls, Incorporated of Shelbyville, Shelby County Stakes.

In her first out of this season, Selva finished second in the Bienville at the Fair Grounds going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. In her most recent outing, Selva ran third in the Unbridled Sidney at Churchill Downs. Last year, as a 3-year-old, she ran in graded company in 4 of 7 starts, with her best finish a second in the Grade 2 Beaumont at Keeneland.

Robby Albarado ships in to ride Selva. Albarado and trainer David Carroll have teamed up to win at a 25-percent clip the past 18 months.

Should Selva fail to fire, Knockout Bertie could take advantage. Trained by Steve Margolis, Knockout Bertie finished a nose behind Selva in the Unbridled Sidney May 8 after setting the early fractions. That was her first out in two months, and she may have needed it. Shaun Bridgmohan will retain the mount.

Others in the field are Grand Affair, Streamin Heat, Cuay's Humor, Dee's Rose, Just Memories, Fortune Play, Texas Country Doll, and Themoonandthestars.
