Seeyouinthecity handles extra distance

The stretchout from 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles was no problem for Seeyouinthecity ($7) in the $50,000 Humphrey S. Finney for Maryland-bred 3-year-olds at Laurel Park.

Making just his second start of the season after winning a first-level allowance at Colonial Downs on July 20, Seeyouinthecity set comfortable fractions of 48.62 seconds for a half-mile and 1:12.26 for six furlongs while opening up a fourth-length lead following a mile in 1:36.03. He then held off even-money favorite Baltimore Bob by 1 1/2 lengths for his third win in six lifetime starts. The winning time on the firm turf course was 1:48.06.

It was the first stakes victory in Maryland for 19-yearold jockey Malcolm Franklin, who has been aboard for both of Seeyouithecity's wins this season.

Seven years ago, trainer Dale Capuano claimed a filly named Lux Marquet on behalf of the See You Stable for $25,000 out of her career debut at Pimlico. She never raced again, but is now beginning to return something on the investment for her owners as the dam of Seeyouinthecity. A son of Slew City Slew, Seeyouinthecity is Lux Marquet's fourth foal, but first winner.
