Second Breeders' Cup pick 4

Breeders' Cup will add a second pick four to its wagering menu for this year's event at Lone Star Park on Oct. 30, Breeders' Cup officials said Wednesday.

The pick four will link the first Breeders' Cup race, the Distaff, with the Juvenile Fillies, Mile, and Sprint. Since 2000, Breeders' Cup had offered only one pick four, ending with the Classic.

"The pick four handle has been really good in the past, and we felt we should go ahead and get all eight races covered," said Ken Kirchner, a Breeders' Cup senior vice president.

Each of the eight Breeders' Cup races will offer win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta bets. Rolling pick threes will be offered throughout the card, and a $3 million guaranteed pick six will link the last six Breeders' Cup races. Four daily doubles will be offered.

Kirchner said that Breeders' Cup is exploring several options for head-to-head wagers, which require the winning bettor to select one horse to finish in front of another horse.

Four additional stakes races will be held on the card. One will precede the Distaff, which will have a post time of 1:20 p.m. Eastern, and three will follow the Breeders' Cup Classic.
