'Script' does best at a mile

Email

AUBURN, Wash. - Super Script will attempt to make it two wins in a row on Friday when she takes on five other older fillies and mares in the one-mile feature, which is for $8,000 to $7,000 claimers.

Super Script, a 5-year-old daughter of Super Seven who races for trainer and part-owner Hugh Carney, won under Friday's conditions on May 16, leading throughout to score by 1 1/2 lengths over Jade Beauty, with Capable of Gold a head farther back in third.

Super Script benefited from a potent speed bias that day, but it should also be noted that she won off a single five-furlong prep, which is a difficult feat at Emerald Downs. The tally brought her record to two wins and a second from just four starts at a mile, which is clearly Super Script's best distance.

Assuming the track is playing neutral on Friday, Capable of Gold will have an opportunity to turn the tables on Super Script, as she finished well to just miss second despite racing over a speed-biased surface in their May 16 meeting.

Capable of Gold was also routing off one sprint prep that day, and like Super Script she has compiled an admirable record a mile, registering a win, a second, and three thirds from five tries at the distance.

Expected to challenge Super Script for the lead on Friday is Thatswatimtalknabt, who showed the way for $3,200 claimers at a mile on May 10 and held second after being passed near the wire by Libera, who came back last Friday to run a good second at a mile on the same $3,200 level.
