Scheing E Jet won't miss nemesis

At least Scheing E Jet doesn't have to face Silmaril again this weekend.

A 4-year-old filly trained by Eddie Gaudet, Scheing E Jet has had the misfortune of racing against nine-time stakes winner Silmaril in 3 of her last 4 starts.

Without Silmaril in the lineup, Gaudet has a good shot to win Laurel Park's Saturday feature for the second straight week, this time with Scheing E Jet in the $100,000 Primonetta Stakes at six furlongs. The Gaudet-trained 3-year-old filly Laila's Punch won the March 31 Smart Halo.

Since she was vanned off the track in early December, Scheing E Jet has been extremely competitive, twice finishing second to Silmaril and coming within two necks of her four weeks ago in the Conniver.

Scheing E Jet's only stakes win came in the Alma North for Maryland-breds at Timonium last September.

La Chica Rica, who outgamed Scheing E Jet for second in the seven-furlong Conniver, and Homesteader, given six weeks to recover from by far the best Beyer Speed Figure of her 15-race career, both look like serious contenders.

The 4-year-old La Chica Rica, who excels over wet surfaces, proved she can also run well over a fast track when she couldn't quite hold off Silmaril on March 10.

Homesteader, from the high-percentage barn of Gary Capuano, might have been expected to bounce off the 96 Beyer she earned for her six-length romp over high-priced optional claimers in late February. But Capuano has given her ample time to recover from that career-best effort and she has worked sharply for her return.

Coli Bear didn't run well in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint or the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride at Gulfstream. But she was a five-time winner in 2006 racing primarily against stakes company at Aqueduct and Delaware Park and is the track's 8-5 morning-line favorite for the Primonetta. She comes into the race off a bullet four-furlong work on Tuesday for trainer Steve Klesaris.

"It looks like she did her best racing up here," Klesaris said. "She breezed well at Fair Hill the other day and this looked like a nice spot."
