Say Florida Sandy promoted

Say Florida Sandy, the all-time leading New York-bred money earner, added to his bankroll and was awarded his 19th stakes victory Wednesday without leaving the barn.

Crossing Point was disqualified from first and unplaced from the $80,550 Paumonok Handicap on Jan. 25 after a postrace urine test revealed the presence of clenbuterol, a banned substance for raceday use in New York. Thus, Say Florida Sandy, who finished second, was moved to first.

Ben Feliciano, the trainer of Crossing Point, was to begin serving a 15-day suspension Thursday. He was originally suspended 30 days but the penalty was reduced when he waived his right of appeal. Feliciano, based in Maryland, was also fined $2,000.

By being awarded first place, Say Florida Sandy added $32,220 to his earnings, giving him $2,056,155 for his career. His record now stands at 33-17-11 from 95 starts.
