Saxet Heights, Ghostly Thunder earn futurity wins

EmailLightly raced Saxet Heights, the winner of a slowly run maiden race in her only previous start, defeated three-time stakes winner We're in the Money by three lengths in the $72,212 fillies division of the Tri-State Futurity on Saturday night at Charles Town.

Because she was coupled with Color Parade, a filly who had twice finished close to even-money favorite We're in the Money, Saxet Heights paid only $6.80. Based on her career debut, in which she earned a 29 Beyer Speed Figure against West Virginia-bred maidens, Saxet Heights would have been much higher odds if she raced uncoupled. Luis Perez picked up the winning mount when Arnaldo Bocachica chose to ride Color Parade, who finished third.

Saxet Heights, trained by Jeff Runco, covered the seven furlongs in 1:28.23.

In the $72,212 division for colts and geldings, Ghostly Thunder ($3) rolled to a 10 1/2-length victory over Milwaukee Fun. Ridden by Travis Dunkelberger for trainer Gary Capuano, Ghostly Thunder ran the seven furlongs in 1:26.63.
