Saturday stakes recaps (8/23/03)


* Holy Bubbette ($5.20) romped by eight lengths to win her stakes debut in the $50,000 Dixie Miss Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

* Baba Gonzo ($3) won for the first time in three career starts, defeating six Ohio-bred 2-year-old rivals in the $40,000 Miss Ohio Stakes at Thistledown.

* Where's the Ring ($6.20) drew clear by 3 1/2 lengths through the stretch to win the $35,000 Taliaferro Memorial at Remington Park. Medium Rare, who was attempting to win the stakes for the third straight year, finished second.

* Monsieur Boulanger ($5.80), who had finished behind Gentleman JJ twice this season, turned the tables on his rival when he drove to a 3 1/4-length win in the $35,000 Jim Bowie Stakes at Retama Park.

* Expect the Best ($7.60), the only horse in a field of 12 2-year-olds with two wins, won for the third time in five career starts in the $39,1000 Kindergarten Handicap at Philadelphia Park.

* Three-year-old colt Donald's Pride ($6) won his third straight race and second consecutive stakes when he defeated a field of older West Virginia-bred horses by 4 1/4 lengths in the $41,750 Frank Gall Memorial at Charles Town
