Saturday stakes recaps (8/21/04)


* Bianconi Baby posted her first stakes victory in the $100,000 Washington Breeders' Cup Oaks over 1 1/8 miles at Emerald Downs.

* A disqualification for interference in the stretch enabled favored Country Be Gold ($5) to get the victory in the $54,100 Gate Dancer Stakes at Delaware Park.

* Honorable Pic ($13.80) led throughout for a neck win over favorite Fly Slama Jama in the $40,000 Chick Lang Jr. Memorial Stakes at Retama Park. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Late Expectations.

* Ole Rebel ($8), under an extremely patient ride by Corey Lanerie, slipped through along the inside in midstretch to capture the $40,000 Folklore Handicap at Louisiana Downs.

* Sue's Good News ($4.60) rallied from more than 10 lengths back at the quarter pole to score a widening 1 1/2-length victory over Synco Peach in the $40,000 Iowa State Fair Stakes for fillies and mares at Prairie Meadows.

* Mister Monet continued his rapid rise up the ranks of Europe's 3-year-olds with a commanding victory in the Group 2, $130,000 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville.
