Saturday stakes recaps (7/31/04)


* Halo Cat ($5.80) rallied along the rail to capture the $42,930 Ernest Finley Handicap at the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa, Calif. Halo Cat, beat defending champion My Captain by 1 3/4 lengths, covering six furlongs in 1:07.93.

* Alpha Capo ($8.60) captured the $50,000 Bossier City Handicap at Louisiana Downs. Social King came up a head short in second, followed by the favorite, No Place Like It.

* Grande Diablo ($4) broke sharply and did not look back, winning the $40,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes at Evangeline Downs by four lengths. A Galloping Ghost was second, followed by Miss Excavate.

* Fly Slama Jama ($8.60) won the $31,500 Retama Park Turf Breeders' Cup by five lengths over the favorite, Virginia Pride. Classoffiftyseven was third, 1 3/4 lengths back.

* Favourable Terms prevailed by a short head over Silence is Golden the Group 1, $360,000 Vodafone Nassau Stakes at Goodwood in England.

* He Loves Me ($2.80) captured her fifth stakes of the year with a 1 3/4-length win in the $100,000 Twixt Stakes at Pimlico.

* Fancy Buckles ($3.40) wired a group of West Virginia-bred fillies and mares by 4 1/4 lengths in the $76,400 Sadie Hawkins Handicap at Charles Town.

* Rudirudy ($12.60), returning five days after winning an optional claming sprint at Philadelphia Park, rallied to a 1 1/2-length victory over yielding turf in the $50,000 Pennsylvania Governor's Cup Handicap at Penn National.
