Saturday stakes recaps (6/19/04)


* In his grass debut, Frisky Spider ($11.40) proved he could handle the turf and showed he was more than a headstrong sprinter by winning the one-mile Restoration Stakes at Monmouth Park.

* Mexican Moonlight ($9.00) had enough left to turn back a bid from highweight Due to Win Again in midstretch to capture the Old South Handicap at Louisiana Downs.

* Rubianos Image ($21.20) rallied to the front a furlong from the wire and drew clear to a 1 3/4-length victory over defending champion Take Me Up in Saturday's $70,000 Cyclones Handicap at Prairie Meadows.

* With Patience ($4.60) erased a 3 1/2-length lead by pacesetter Bright Gold in the final furlong to earn a half-length victory in the $50,000 Something Royal at Colonial Downs.

* Ribbon Cane ($6.60), sent to the front immediately by jockey Brandon Whitacre, cruised to an 8 1/4-length victory in the $51,400 Summer Distaff Handicap, a 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares at Charles Town.

* Prince Joseph ($4.40) drew off in the stretch to score a 1 1/2-length win in the $53,250 Peppy Addy at Philadelphia Park.

* Ghostly Gate bested seven other 3-year old fillies to capture the $40,000 Northbound Pride Stakes at Canterbury Park.

* Valida ($3.00) nosed out local sprinter Cart's Maybe So in the six-furlong $30,000 Ruffian Stakes at Fairmount Park.

* Irish Flyer ($3.20) shook off the pace challenge of Schadow after a half-mile, then held Bright Flame safe through the final quarter to defend her title in the one-mile, $15,700 Matchmaker Handicap at Lincoln.
