Saturday stakes recaps (6/17/06)


* King Freddie ($6.20) took advantage of a perfect stalking trip under jockey Tim Doocy and drew off in the final furlong to score a 3 1/4-length victory over Plum Sober in the $70,000 Cyclones Handicap for Iowa-breds at Prairie Meadows.

* Sent off at 1-5, Union Avenue ($2.60) dominated the $60,000 John D. Marsh at Colonial Downs, defeating 5-2 second choice Love Conquers by four lengths.

* Cat Singer ($6) set a fast early pace and ran off to a 4 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 Gendelman Handicap at River Downs.

* Odds-on favorite Calista Ridge ($3.60) took control soon after the start in the $50,000 Seven Stars Stakes at Louisiana Downs and went on to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths.

* Nightmare Affair ($4) overtook the leaders entering the stretch and drew clear to score a 3 1/4-length victory in the $45,000 Champali Stakes at Calder. Also on the card, Jabalski Princess ($16.60) withstood a run from Formal Miss to register a three-quarter-length victory in the $45,000 No Winking Stakes.

* Galactic Cat ($14.40) made the most of a rain-shortened field in the $40,000 Minnesota HBPA Mile at Canterbury Park, setting all the pace to score by three lengths.

* P. R. Victory ($9.60) took advantage of a quick early pace, went up to make the lead entering the stretch, and drew off to a seven-length win over his five rivals in the $35,000 Black Gold Handicap at Thistledown.

* Up 'n Blumin ($2.80) defended her title in the $20,700 Matchmaker Handicap by defeating six rivals by 7 1/4 lengths at Lincoln.
