Saturday stakes recaps (5/14/05)

* Happy Ticket ran her career record to a perfect 8 for 8 with an impressive 6 1/4-length win in the Suthern Accent Stakes at Louisiana Downs. Pacesetter Southern Surprise narrowly held off Red Lifesaver for the place.

* Catch My Cat ($3.40) defeated Catlaunch by a nose and then survived a claim of foul to win the $40,000 Mike Rowland Memorial Handicap at Thistledown. Cruzcat finished third, three lengths farther back in the field of five Ohio-breds.

* Jockey Mario Pino took Polish Pride ($6.40) between horses, then angled him to the rail in midstretch to wear down On Thin Ice for a neck victory in the $53,300 Quick Card Stakes for 3-year-olds and up at Delaware Park. The Lady's Groom was third in the one-mile stakes.

* It wasn't exactly the way a 3-5 shot is supposed to win, but My Typhoon got the job done with a two-length victory in the $75,000 Hilltop Breeders' Cup at Pimlico. My Typhoon, under Jerry Bailey, wore down pacesetter Flashy Three in midstretch to earn her first stakes victory in the 1 1/16-mile turf race.

* Switch Lanes ($2.60) dueled every step of the way and scored a very game nose victory over her five Iowa-bred filly and mare rivals in the $50,000 Mamie Eisenhower Stakes at Prairie Meadows. Ridden by Glenn Corbett, Switch Lanes clocked the six furlongs in 1:11.68 over the fast track.
