Saturday stakes recaps (1/7/06)


* Drill Hall ($6.20) solidified his horse-for-the-course reputation at Evangeline Downs, rallying from just off the pace to win the $75,000 Lucky Dog Stakes for his sixth victory in seven starts over the track.

* Avoiding trouble at the start that eliminated several of her rivals, Platinum Perfect ($6.20) chased the early leader for a half-mile, then rallied to post a length victory in the $60,000 Minaret Stakes for filly and mare sprinters at Tampa Bay Downs.

* Final Copy ($4.40), the only horse in a field of 11 3-year-olds with as many as three victories, rallied from sixth to win the $50,000 Turfway Prevue by 3 1/4 lengths over Warrior Within.

* The 6-year-old gelding Don't Strike Cat ($7.60) held off Broke Sharply by a head to capture the $50,000 Winsham Lad Handicap at Sunland Park.

* Western Act ($17.40), one of the best 3-year-old turf runners in the Southwest last season, closed strongly to capture the $40,000 Cotton Fitzsimmons Handicap at Turf Paradise by 2 3/4 lengths.
