Saturday stakes recaps (12/27/03)


* Swingn' Notes ($18) outdueled Secret Corsage down the lane to win the $61,100 Corte Madera Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

* Stepping up in class off an entry-level allowance victory, Founding Chairman proved his worth in stakes company by winning the $50,000 Holiday Cheer Stakes at Turfway Park.

* Search for a Cure, who had been idle for more than seven months before winning an optional claiming race on Dec. 7, handled a rise in class to win the $50,000 Squan Song Stakes for Maryland-bred fillies and mares at Laurel Park.

* Our Here Tiz, a 45-1 longshot, gave apprentice B.J. Hernandez Jr. his first career stakes win when she carried him to a 1 3/4-length win in the $40,000 Lagniappe at Delta Downs.

* Above the Wind, the longest shot in a field of 13 that included an entry, returned $132.40 after prevailing by a length in the $60,000 Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.
