Saturday stakes recaps (07/23/05)

* Edenwold ($9.60) outran 2-5 favorite Key West Breeze in the stretch to win his first stakes in the $135,650 Colin for 2-year-olds at Woodbine.

* Bright Gold ($5.80) got the jump on heavily favored With Patience and drew off to a 3 1/4-length victory in the $60,000 Somethingroyal Stakes at Colonial Downs.

* Running Lass ($4.80) used her high speed to its best advantage en route to an easy 2 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 GTBOA Juvenile Filly Turf Dash, a restricted event for progeny of nominated stallions from Georgia that was the first grass race for 2-year-olds this season at Calder.

* Dawn of War ($6.20) won his maiden in style when he captured the $40,000 Brian Barenscheer Juvenile Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths at Canterbury Park. Two horses owned by Jer-Mar Stable lost stakes as odds-on favorites earlier in the meet, but the barn's fortunes improved when Bountempo ($9.60) drew clear by two lengths in the $40,000 Canterbury Park Lassie.

* Facing perhaps the best locally based males Fairmount Park has to offer, the 4-year-old filly Lady Riss ($6.40) blew by favored Beabasque down the stretch to win the $40,800 Pete Condellone Memorial Handicap by a half-length.
