SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. − Tizway, the Metropolitan Handicap winner, worked a solid five furlongs in 1:00.10 Friday morning over the Oklahoma training track as he prepares for a start in the Grade 1, $750,000 Whitney Handicap Invitational here Aug. 6.

Equipped with blinkers and working by himself under exercise rider Andreas Catalan, Tizway went in fractions of 12.90 seconds, 24.29, 35.96, meaning he got his last quarter in 24.15 seconds. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.38.

Trainer James Bond said he uses blinkers on Tizway for works only when he wants to “crank him up.”

“He’ll give me another second when I need it,” Bond said. “He did the way he was supposed to. He looked good to me from what I can see.”

Tizway will probably come back with one more work before the Whitney, a race in which he finished fourth in 2009.
