Roman Treasure works four furlongs in 48.02 seconds Saturday morning over Saratoga’s main track.

Roman Treasure, who made an impressive 4-year-old debut at Belmont three weeks ago, worked four furlongs in 48.02 seconds Saturday morning over Saratoga’s main track in preparation for Friday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Honorable Miss Handicap.

Over a track in which some horses appeared to be laboring in the stretch, Roman Treasure got her final quarter in 23.24 seconds.

“I thought the work was great,” trainer Mike Hushion said. “Her last work was pretty nice, too.”

Roman Treasure, third in the Grade 1 Test here last year, came off a seven-month layoff to win the Chaldea Stakes on July 8 at Belmont, running six furlongs in 1:08.84. It was her first start since she finished last in the Sugar Swirl Stakes at Gulfstream on Dec. 10.

“I thought she was training like her old self, but that Florida race scared me,” Hushion said, when asked if he was expecting that big an effort from Roman Treasure.

The field for the Honorable Miss, a prep for the Ballerina, will be drawn Monday. Others expected to enter are C C’s Pal, Gleaming, Island Bound, and Winning Image. Beat the Blues and Bold Affair were possible.
