Saratoga: P H Supercam wins Gerrity Memorial

Email

P H Supercam continued the dominance of trainer Jeff Bamond Jr. in the aged pacing ranks capturing the $260,000 Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial at Saratoga Harness on Saturday night. Jason Bartlett was keen to leave the gate from post four and spotted his horse in third position as the field entered the first turn.

The first turn decided the race as 8-5 favorite and defending champion Dancin Yankee charged from post two. Second choice Luck Be Withyou and Mark MacDonald left alertly as well from midpack but took some bad steps and eventually broke stride losing all chance.

Jim Morrill Jr. with Dancin Yankee earned control in the :26 3/5 opening quarter. They were still strong on the lead through the :54 2/5 opening half but Bartlett led P H Supercam to the outside on the third turn and the pair kicked it into high gear on the backstretch engaging the favorite through a 1:22 three quarter clocking.

Both Dancin Yankee and P H Supercam were eyeball-to-eyeball through the final turn but Bartlett and the eight-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam were tenacious through the stretch and earned the decision in a close photo in a 1:50 1/5 mile.

Dancin Yankee had to settle for second with Levy Memorial winner Domethatagain closing sharply in the stretch for third. Michaels Power and Doctor Butch completed the check getters.

Sent off as a 9-2 proposition P H Supercam won for the 47th time in his career pushing his lifetime earnings to $1,244,251, much of that for current owner Jeff Bamond.
