SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – So Many Ways and Kauai Katie combined to win all three graded stakes for juvenile fillies run here last summer, yet they never met.

On Saturday, when both return to Saratoga in the Grade 1, $300,000 Prioress, they figure to be the top two choices in the six-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies that drew a field of seven.

So Many Ways won the Grade 3 Schuylerville and the Grade 1 Spinaway here last year, while Kauai Katie took the Grade 2 Adirondack.

Trainer Tom Amoss, who before this meet began said he was more likely to wait for the Grade 1 Test later in the meet than run So Many Ways in the Prioress, said he changed his mind due to how well the horse has done since she arrived – not because of the defection of Grade 1 winner Midnight Lucky.

“Certainly, the decision to run is a lot easier without that horse in the race, but we were going to go no matter what,” said Amoss, who trains So Many Ways for Maggi Moss. “The horse has really done well up here. You know what? I guess we should have realized that was going to happen. She’s run twice up here, she’s undefeated, and she’s a Grade 1 stakes winner.”

So Many Ways, who is 4 for 5 around one turn, is coming off a third-place finish in the Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows.

“I don’t think Maggi or myself were convinced she’s a two-turn horse; we thought that was a good spot to give it a whirl,” Amoss said. “We won’t do that again.”

So Many Ways will break from post 5 under Joel Rosario.

Kauai Katie, also 2 for 2 at Saratoga last summer, is 6 for 7 in races run around one turn. She is coming off a third in the Grade 1 Acorn going a mile at Belmont on May 27. She will break from post 7 under John Velazquez.

Also entered in the Prioress are Irish Lute, Wildcat Lily, Ju Ju Eyeballs, Lighthouse Bay, and Little Rocket.

its going to come down to Irish Lute, So Many Ways and Kauai Katie. I'll give the nod to So Many Ways over Kauai Katie very close second and Irish Lute third.
