Saratoga: Jackson Bend possible for Forego

Jackson Bend, who luckily escaped serious injury when run into by another horse, Little Nick, while galloping over the Oklahoma training track last Saturday morning, has resumed training and is still being considered as a possible starter for the Grade 1 Forego on Sept. 1.

Trainer Nick Zito said Jackson Bend returned to the track Wednesday after undergoing a battery of tests, all of which came back negative.

“We did all the scopes, the ultrasound, the X-rays; they came back good, it’s amazing,” Zito said. “And his blood was good. But still, he got knocked out. We’ll see how he does the next few days, how his energy level is. If all goes well, we’ll try to work him Monday. He was so good for the race. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, see how he goes.”

Jackson Bend is the defending Forego champion, having rallied to a 3 3/4-length victory in the seven-furlong fixture here last summer.
